The Municipal House of Delfland from the 16th century has one of the most beautiful and oldest facades in Delft.
It is a city palace, natural stone decorated with colourful coats of arms and since 1645 it has been the seat of the Delfland Water Board, one of the oldest water boards in the country.
Water boards were the first forms of democratic governance in the Netherlands.
Other old beautiful Delft facades can also be seen along various canals, such as Voldersgracht, Koornmarkt, Oude Delft, the Wijnhaven, the Voorstraat and on the Markt.
This is the oldest brick house in Delft and was built in 1505. The client was the dike count Jan de Huyter.
Most coats of arms date from the second half of the 17th century.
In the Netherlands, water boards are still responsible for measures to prevent flooding, clean drinking water and the drainage of dirty water.

Waterschappen waren de eerste vormen van democratisch bestuur in Nederland.
Ook langs diverse grachten zijn nog andere oude prachtige Delftse gevels te zien, zoals de Voldersgracht, Koornmarkt, Oude Delft, de Wijnhaven, de Voorstraat en op de Markt.
Dit is het oudste bakstenen huis van Delft en is gebouwd in 1505. De opdrachtgever was de dijkgraaf Jan de Huyter.
De meeste wapenschilden dateren dateren uit de tweede helft van de 17e eeuw.
Waterschappen zijn in Nederland nog steeds verantwoordelijk voor maatregelen ter voorkoming van overstromingen, schoon drinkwater en de afvoer van vuil water.
