New Church not new at all:

The Nieuwe Kerk on the Markt in Delft is a late Gothic church. Despite its name meaning “New Church”, it is not new at all. Built between 1383 and 1510. It has a stunning cruciform design and a towering spire.
You can climb the tower, which has 376 narrow steps leading to a height of 85 meters. That offers breathtaking views of Delft. The tower itself stands over 100 meters tall. Making it one of the tallest in the Netherlands. Second only to the Dom Tower in Utrecht.

Mausoleum William of Orange:

The church is important to the Dutch royal family. All members of the House of Orange are buried in its burial chambers. Recent burials include Queen Juliana, Prince Bernhard, Prince Claus, and Prince Friso. Linking Delft to the royal family for centuries.
The mausoleum of William of Orange, a key figure in Dutch history, has a prominent place in the church. His tomb, is made of gold, bronze, and Italian marble. It is a UNESCO-listed monument. It includes symbolic statues. Representing freedom, justice, religion, strength and courage. A Spaniel dog at his feet symbolizes loyalty.

De Nieuwe Kerk Delft (Dutch translation):

De Nieuwe Kerk op de Markt in Delft is een laatgotische kerk. Ondanks de naam “Nieuwe Kerk” is deze niet nieuw.. Gebouwd tussen 1383 en 1510, heeft het een prachtig kruisvormig ontwerp en een hoge toren.

Je kunt de toren beklimmen, die 376 smalle treden heeft en leidt naar een hoogte van 85 meter. Vanaf daar heb je een prachtig uitzicht over Delft. De toren zelf is meer dan 100 meter hoog, wat het een van de hoogste kerktorens in Nederland maakt. De op één na hoogste, na de Domtoren in Utrecht.

De kerk is belangrijk voor de Nederlandse koninklijke familie. Alle leden van het Huis van Oranje in de grafkelders van de kerk zijn er begraven. Recente begrafenissen zijn onder andere die van Koningin Juliana, Prins Bernhard, Prins Claus en Prins Friso. Delft is al eeuwenlang verbonden is met de koninklijke familie.

Het praalgraf van Willem van Oranje, een belangrijke figuur in de Nederlandse geschiedenis, heeft een prominente plaats in de kerk. Zijn graf is gemaakt van goud, brons en Italiaans marmer. Het is een UNESCO-monument. Het bevat symbolische standbeelden die vrijheid, gerechtigheid, religie, kracht en moed vertegenwoordigen. Een spaniël hond aan zijn voeten staat symbool voor loyaliteit.

Now only one original pottery remains: the Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft). This historic factory and studio is open to visitors. Allowing people to see the traditional techniques that keep Delft Blue alive.

As you walk through Delft, you’ll spot Delft Blue everywhere. In souvenir shops, galleries, studios, and even on the streets. Some streets have ceramic paving stones, and certain lampposts are painted in Delft Blue. Even the city’s street art often includes shades of blue, showing how much Delft values its pottery heritage.

Porceleyne Fles Joost Thooft:

You can recognise real Delft Blue by the unique marks on each piece. These marks include the initials “JT” for Joost Thooft. He was one of the first owners of the Porceleyne Fles. You’ll also see “Delft” with a curly “D,” the painter’s initials, a year code, and an article number. Each mark shows the skill of the people who create Delft Blue. The clay mould makers, bakers, and master painters.

Delfts Blauw aardewerk is wereldwijd beroemd om zijn prachtige blauw-witte ontwerpen. In de 17e eeuw was Delft vol met pottenbakkerijen, maar nu is er nog maar één over: de Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft). Deze historische fabriek en studio, is open voor bezoekers. Royal Delft laat zien hoe de traditionele technieken van Delfts Blauw worden behouden.

Als je door Delft loopt, zie je overal Delfts Blauw. In souvenirwinkels, galerieën, studio’s en zelfs op straat. Sommige straten hebben keramische tegels, en bepaalde lantaarnpalen zijn geschilderd in Delfts Blauw. Zelfs de straatkunst in de stad bevat vaak blauwe tinten. Wat laat zien hoeveel Delft waarde hecht aan zijn aardewerk-erfgoed.

Echt Delfts Blauw herken je aan de unieke merktekens op elk stuk. Deze markeringen bevatten de initialen “JT” voor Joost Thooft, een van de eerste eigenaren van de Porceleyne Fles. Ook zie je “Delft” met een sierlijke “D”, de initialen van de schilder, een jaartalcode en een artikelnummers. Elk merkteken laat de vaardigheid zien van de mensen die Delfts Blauw maken.
