The former shipyard NDSM (Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij), is an absolute creativity hotspot. Many artists studios, start-ups, concerts and activities.
The Dutch Dock and Shipbuilding Company NDSM was founded on August 25, 1894. At Oostenburg, where many wooden ships of the Dutch East Indies Company VOC were also built in the 17th century. Now they were iron ships with steam and diesel engines. Daniel Goedkoop was the inspired and hierarchical leader.
In the 1970s, the shipbuilding industry in the NDSM area Amsterdam disappeared. A desolate industrial landscape of 32 hectares was left behind.
Now NDSM area Amsterdam is a breeding ground for creative companies in the fields of visual arts, design, theatre, film, media and architecture.

Op 25 augustus 1894 werd de Nederlandse Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij NDSM opgericht. Op Oostenburg waar in de 17e eeuw ook vele houten schepen van de Verenigde Oost Indie Compagnie VOC van stapel liepen.
Nu waren het ijzeren schepen met stoom en diesel motoren. Daniel Goedkoop was de bezielde en hiërarchische leider.
In de jaren zeventig verdween de scheepsbouw in het NDSM-gebied Amsterdam. Er bleef een desolaat industrieel landschap van 32 hectare achter.
Nu is NDSM-gebied Amsterdam een broedplaats voor creatieve bedrijven op het gebied van beeldende kunst, design, theater, film, media en architectuur.
