Gouda’s town hall has one of the oldest town halls in the Netherlands in Gothic style.
It is located in the lively center of Gouda and is world famous.
The city fire of 1361 destroyed the predecessor of this town hall.
Requirement for the construction of a new town hall was: it had to be located in the middle of the market. That way it would be less susceptible to fire.
The annual Christmas atmosphere around the town hall makes a visit to Gouda definitely worth it.
The ‘Gouda by candlelight’ event starts in mid-December. The town hall is transformed by a light show into a true modern light work of art.
Every year, the Norwegian sister city of Kongsberg donates a twenty-meter high Christmas tree. In the past lit with candles, now with LED lighting.

Het stadhuis van Gouda heeft een van de oudste stadhuizen van Nederland in gotische stijl.
Het staat midden in het levendige centrum van Gouda en is wereldberoemd.
De stadsbrand van 1361 verwoestte de voorganger van dit stadhuis.
Voorwaarde voor de bouw van een nieuw gemeentehuis was: het moest midden op de markt komen te staan. Op die manier zou het minder gevoelig zijn voor brand.
Rondom het stadhuis is de jaarlijkse kerstsfeer een bezoek aan Gouda zeker waard.
Half december start het ‘Gouda bij kaarslicht’ evenement. Het stadhuis veranderd door een lichtshow in een waar modern licht kunstwerk.
Elk jaar schenkt de Noorse zusterstad Kongsberg, speciaal voor Kerst een twintig meter hoge kerstboom. In het verleden verlicht met kaarsen, nu met led verlichting.
