Every year, the Norwegian sister city Kongsberg donates a twenty-meter Christmas tree, now lit with LED lights.
The ‘Gouda by Candlelight’ event fills the market square with thousands of candles, choirs singing carols, a Christmas market, and performances, creating a magical atmosphere.

Het stadhuis van Gouda is een van de oudste van Nederland, gebouwd in gotische stijl. Gelegen in het levendige centrum van Gouda, is het wereldberoemd om zijn architectuur en geschiedenis.
Het oorspronkelijke stadhuis werd in 1361 door brand verwoest. Het nieuwe stadhuis werd midden op het marktplein gebouwd om het brandrisico te verminderen. Deze centrale locatie maakte het tot een iconisch onderdeel van de stad.
Een bezoek aan Gouda tijdens het kerstseizoen is bijzonder charmant. Het evenement ‘Gouda bij Kaarslicht’ begint halverwege december en transformeert het stadhuis met een schitterende lichtshow.
