On the east side of Dam Square is the obelisk, the Dutch National Monument Amsterdam, which pays tribute to the victims of the Second World War.
Every year on the 4th of May, they are commemorated with a meeting of the King, ministers and Amsterdammers.
At 8 p.m. there is a one minute silence across the country.
At the front are four handcuffed male figures that represent misery, resistance and victory.
With howling dogs, representing sorrow and faithfulness.
