A must-see in The Hague is a gigantic painted panorama, with a diameter of up to 100 feet by Hendrik Mesdag.
Panorama Mesdag the Hague is imposing and large and it is the only panorama in the world that is still in the original building and in it’s original arrangement.
The way to the Panorama of Mesdag goes up a spiral staircase and then you are suddenly on top of a dune. You can really walk around the plateau together with other visitors and study all the details on the balustrade.
Panorama Mesdag is one of the oldest panoramas in the world. It has a length of 120 meters and a height of 14 meters. Pictured is Scheveningen Beach in May June 1881.It was painted in a short time. In just a few months.At the top there is a kind of tent canvas measuring over two hundred square meters.
At the bottom of the enormous painting is the decor of the dunes of Scheveningen.

Een must-see in Den Haag is een gigantisch geschilderd panorama, met een diameter tot wel 30 meter, van Hendrik Mesdag.
Panorama Mesdag Den Haag is imposant en groot en het is het enige panorama ter wereld dat zich nog in het oorspronkelijke gebouw en in de originele opstelling bevindt.
De weg naar het Panorama van Mesdag gaat via een wenteltrap omhoog en dan sta je ineens boven op een duin. Je kunt echt samen met andere bezoekers over het plateau lopen en alle details op de balustrade bestuderen.
Het schilderij behoord tot de oudste panorama’s ter wereld. Het is 120 meter lang en 14 meter hoog en de afstand tot het doek is ook 14 meter.
Afgebeeld is het strand van Scheveningen in mei juni 1881.
In korte tijd is het geschilderd. Slechts in een paar maanden.
De bovenzijde van het schilderij wordt verhuld door ligt een doek van ruim tweehonderd vierkante meter.
Aan de onderzijde van het enorme schilderij bevindt zich het decor van de Scheveningse duinen.
Men voelt de zeewind en hoort het geluid van de zeemeeuwen. Maar het uitzicht is geschilderd en virtueel.
