The Chinese FGS He Hua temple Amsterdam, which means lotus flower in Chinese, is the largest Buddhist temple of its kind in Europe.
The temple is built in the traditional Chinese palace style. The entire structure is composed of different symbols: the animals that can be seen on the roof represent the Chinese zodiac. The dragons must protect the temple and the district.

He Hua, lotusbloem het Chinees, is de grootste Europese boeddhistische tempel. De bouwstijl is zoals de Chinese paleizen. Het hele bouwwerk is opgebouwd uit verschillende symbolen: op het dak zijn dieren te zien te zien die de vertegenwoordigers zijn van de Chinese dierenriem. De tempel en het district worden natuurlijk beschermt door draken.
Bouwvakkers uit Taiwan waren uitgenodigd om de speciale versieringen aan te brengen. Voor veel Chinezen is de tempel een pelgrimsoord.
Boeddha’s verjaardag wordt elk jaar op de Nieuwmarkt gevierd door leden van de tempel. Een ritueel hierbij is het wassen van de Boeddha, waarna hij volgens de legende zeven stappen maakte. De zeven treden vertegenwoordigen Noord, Zuid, Oost, West, Boven, Onder en Hier. Het unieke van Amsterdam Chinatown is dat er nergens ter wereld zoveel andere nationaliteiten wonen. Ook de straatnaamborden zijn hier tweetalig: Chinees en Nederlands.
