This is a three-aisled cruciform basilica from the end of the 19th century.
This dome cathedral in Haarlem is unique and with the Sagrada Familia, the Sacré-Coeur, the Westminster Cathedral it is in the top five of the most important new churches in the world built in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The mighty cathedral has 12 towers and a 65 meter high dome.
In the cathedral you will see architectural styles like new-Gothic, new-Roman, Art Deco and even elements of Berlage’s Amsterdam School.

Naamgever en naamgenoot van de oude Sint-Bavokerk, maar met een heel ander uiterlijk is de Nieuwe Baafskathedraal Haarlem. Dit is een zogenaamde driebeukige kruisbasiliek, daterend uit het einde van de 19e eeuw. Deze koepelkathedraal in Haarlem is uniek en kan men vergelijken met de Sagrada Familia, de Sacré-Coeur, de Westminster Cathedral in de top vijf van de belangrijkste nieuwe kerken ter wereld gebouwd in de 19e en 20e eeuw.
De machtige kathedraal is opgebouwd uit 12 torens met een 65 meter hoge koepel.
De gebruikte bouwstijlen kan men typeren als neo-romaans, neo-gotiek, Art Nouveaux en elementen van de Amsterdamse School stijl en zelfs van Berlage.
Grote ramen, glinsterende mozaïeken en reflecterende materialen: alles in deze basiliek wordt gedomineerd door licht. Belangrijk onderdeel van de architectuur en de beleving is het binnenkomende zonlicht.
